The DIVA Project
The Diva Project is a project fueled through Sunshine Promises Inc. which was founded in 2004 as a dream to provide wellness services, workshops and counseling for women victims of domestic violence and abuse. Back then, the founder, Cindy Tawiah had a vision to reach women in shelters and perform these services, but was unable to.
Cindy decided to start using proceeds from her Diva by Cindy Hair Product Line and her then existing Hair Salon, Shades of U, to host a day where some of these victims can come in for a day of healing, restoration and transformation. Meals are provided and the women can be mentally, emotionally and spiritually refreshed.
Her first group of women came from the House of Ruth in Baltimore City. This continued two times per year from 2004 through 2009. In 2009, the Donate to a Diva project continued the dream of this organization by providing 250 gift bags to women in nine different shelters throughout the MD, DC, VA area. Product donations from various companies like Maybelline New York, Brown Sugar Candle Company, and the main resource for this project - Diva by Cindy Hair Products, made this campaign a success.
Then in 2010, there was a day or hope for the Girls Hope shelter where six girls received shampoos, pampering and a day or rejuvenation. May 1, 2011 saw yet another successful Diva day when the doors of the NEW Diva by Cindy Salon and Wellness Center were opened to the women of My Sister's Place. The women were shuttled in to the location on Hooks Lane in Pikesville, MD. They had a red carpet walk, received roses, cellphones and were just lifted up by a host of generous volunteers and staff.
On May 14, 2011, the new Diva by Cindy Salon and Wellness Center held its grand opening. At the new location, the Salon and Wellness Center will host ongoing Diva Projects as well as workshops and wellness services in its warm and hospitable environment. Plans are underway for the next event for the project. Please stay tuned as the details are being confirmed.
The goal of this organization is to reach these women that have been violated in so many ways and give them a day where they can start healing not just on the outside, but from the inside as well.
The results thus far have proven that one day of caring and support can start the rebuilding process of self-assurance, confidence and power needed to overcome the many obstacles that have been placed before these women.
The Sunshine Promises Inc. foundation has been primarily funded by the proceeds for the Diva by Cindy Hair Products and Former Shades of U Salon. The Sunshine Promises foundation welcomes volunteers, affiliate programs and donations.
